Community News

A few weeks ago, there was a party at the Masonic temple in Bed-Stuy. At 2:30 a.m., 16 years old, Shaquail Sanders was stabbed twice in his chest on the dance floor because of an argument that turned violent. Shaquail was pronounced dead before he reached the hospital. Outside of the church, violence continued to rise as shootings erupted and 2 more males were shot in the leg. Their ages are 19 and 20 and they are injuries are not life threatening.

Community News

One of the most well-known restaurants in Bed-Stuy, a few blocks away from my apartment is the “Frank’s Finest” restaurant. Last month, the restaurant closed down because it went out of business. I enjoyed eating at the restaurant ever since I was young because they served the finest hot dogs. Each frank was cooked to perfection and they had a large variety of different toppings including chili, onions, relish, mustard ketchup, sauerkraut and many others to top the finger food. It is such a pity to see Frank’s Finest close because many people in my community never had the chance to taste their hot dogs.

About My Community

Bedford Stuyvesant, also known as "Bed-Stuy" is the community I was born and raised in. I currently live on Park Avenue, a few blocks from the well known, Woodhull Hospital. Bed-Stuy has a high African American population. Growing up in Bed-Stuy has given me a chance to meet many new people and make new friends in my community. There are also many indoor as well as outdoor activities available within my community which includes gyms, parks, and volunteer work. There are also new buildings being built for housing, restaurants and office buildings.
